The Bible tells us in John 4:24 that God is a Spirit, and those who worship Him must do so in spirit and in truth. Unfortunately, many people pray and worship with their minds focused on worldly matters. You can't connect with God spiritually if you're too concerned with worldly things. To truly worship God, you need to silence your worldly thoughts and focus on your spiritual connection with Him.
Your spirit is simple and pure; it isn't burdened by earthly desires. When you worship from your spirit, it's genuine and sincere. If you find your mind wandering to worldly concerns while you're praying or worshiping, then you're not truly connecting with God on a spiritual level. Your spirit isn't concerned with worldly matters; it's focused solely on spiritual things.
Now, let's understand Philippians 4:6 better. It says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." So, when you approach God in prayer, you shouldn't start by worrying about your problems. Instead, you should forget about yourself and focus on pleasing God.
"But Pastor, how can I stop worrying about a problem that's driving me to pray?" you might ask. Well, I didn't write that scripture, but think about it this way: the God you're praying to is capable of solving any problem. So, instead of worrying about your problems, focus on honoring and pleasing God with your prayers and worship.
In fact, it's almost disrespectful to worry about trivial matters in the presence of God. Think about how it was considered inappropriate to be sad or worried in the presence of kings in ancient times. Why worry in the presence of someone who has the power to solve all your problems?
Take Esther, for example. When she appeared before the king, she didn't look like someone facing a death sentence, even though she was. Her royal attire impressed the king, and he granted her favor. Esther's experience mirrors Philippians 4:6: presenting requests to God should come after you've focused on pleasing Him and gained access to His presence.
Unfortunately, many Christians get this process wrong. They enter prayer and worship full of worry, which hinders answers to their prayers and God's presence in their lives.
During my own worship experiences, I make a conscious effort to forget about my worldly concerns and focus solely on God. Sometimes, I spend a long time praising Him because when I lose myself in worship, it's all about Him. And when I truly connect with God's presence, my problems seem to fade away, and there's no need to present them to Him anymore.
I once shared this revelation during a family devotion, and the next day, my sister-in-law was moved to tears during worship. She knelt down and wept, overwhelmed by God's presence. That's the power of worshiping God in truth and in spirit.
So, the next time you pray or worship, try to forget about yourself and focus on connecting with God. Feel His presence, and you'll find that your problems may have already been resolved before you even have a chance to bring them up.
I hope this message has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain blessed, in Jesus' precious name!
